Sullivan County Bicentennial – Call to Artists
The Sullivan County Bicentennial Committee, in conjunction with the Catskill Art Society, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and D&H Canvas, is soliciting local artists to participate in their 2009 Bicentennial Celebration.
The Committee is seeking artists to each create a canvas- or watercolor-based piece capable of being vertically hung, representative of one of the fifteen townships of Sullivan County for a mobile art show. Currently, the Committee is seeking artists to depict the townships of Bethel, Fallsburg, Forestburgh, Fremont, Liberty, Lumberland, Thompson and Tusten.
Artists chosen for this project will be assigned a township according to their preferences whenever possible, and will received a standard-sized canvas and up to $75 worth of supplies.
The “Bicentennial Scenes” Mobile Art Show, with information about each artist’s background and local studio space, will travel throughout Sullivan County for the 2009 Sullivan County Bicentennial Celebration. All commissioned pieces will be auctioned off at a silent auction, with the proceeds going to benefit the artistic and cultural endeavors of the 2009 Bicentennial Celebration.
Artists should submit the following:
- 3-5 images of recent works via CD-Rom or e-mail at 300 dpi 8” x 10”. Images should be labeled with title or number only, and if you wish to submit two different mediums, please submit 3-5 examples of each.
- A résumé or description of your art background.
- A brief description of your relationship to Sullivan County.
- Please rank your top five township choices with regard subject matter. Whenever possible, these rankings will be used to determine your subject matter, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Submissions can be e-mailed to Alexis Eggleton at alexis.eggleton@scgnet.us or via USPS at Alexis Eggleton, Sullivan County Legislature, 100 North Street, Monticello, NY 12701. All submissions should be received by no later than Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 5 p.m.
Artists who are chosen to participate will be notified by Thursday, February 26, 2009, and will be able to pick up their materials at Kristt Company in Monticello immediately. Artists must be prepared to submit their piece, with description and personal biography, by no later than Monday, March 23, 2009.
