– Also, while you’re probably thinking going into midtown Manhattan right at rush hour may not be the best idea, the blocks around that area are only $14-15 for the evening, which is a great price.  While we love public transportation into the city, if a few people go together you can easily split the toll and parking and have it less then $10 a person.  And think how valuable it will be for your organization – registration for the event is free…

So many people who work in the arts go with their feelings, and of course that’s the best way to make many of our decisions.  But the type of ideas, networking, and concrete discussions about how your organization works and can operate is invaluable.  These are not large conferences with 200 people in a room and a bunch of hotel room chairs strewn about; these are small, interconnected groups where you have direct access to the leaders and the people next to you.

It might be obvious, but we like training seminars.

This is happening on NYU’s campus in the city.

Arts in Orange runs a number of seminars in the area that deal with leading organizations.  We also keep an ongoing list of other similar events in the region for art administrators and artists alike.  I you are looking for anything to help your group succeed, don’t even hesitate to contact us.  That’s the reason why we are here.  For you.

The events are being coordinated with, New York State Presenters is a consortium of state-wide presenting organizations.

“These gatherings are open to all presenting organizations, both NYSCA and non-NYSCA funded, along with community-based organizations who may be interested in presenting activities in the future…  Each of the gatherings will feature a panel of New York State based performing artists such as the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company, composer and violinist, Daniel Bernard Roumain, about the potential of developing new audiences for your venue.”

The gathering for the Hudson Valley will be held on Thursday, November 19th at the Fisher Center for the Arts at Bard College, 10 am – 3 pm.

There is no charge for the event, and both organizations that present events and are looking for an audience, and presenting artists who are looking for venues are encouraged to attend.

They are hosting one on 17 October, 2-5 pm focused on the “Fiscal Sponsorship Model to Structure and Support Art Projects”

Most of their programs are held at their 53rd St offices in the city, but they are really worth looking into.  Check out their web site and head over to their calendar link.  One series is how to start your own for-profit arts business, which would be an excellent workshop for those looking into or new to such endeavors.

As social media opens up numerous doors to the arts in terms of delivering messages, displaying work, creating a community of followers and supports, to growing alliances with the extended arts committee, NYS Arts Summit takes a full track and numerous key note speaches to bring you fully up to date on how the medium is changing and adding to the ways we can enhance our work.

Also, there is a very large focus on the music business, an area of the arts seriously impacted over the past few years.  With as many threats as their are opportunities, NYS Arts showcases an extraordinary track on the music business.  Topics range from the future of music coalition to pod casts.

Providing outlets for customers to connect with a brand is the wave of the present. If you want to keep your customers coming back for more, you need to provide meaningful ways for them to feel like they are participants, not just a passive audience. This webinar will provide examples of strategies being used by arts organizations to increase customers’ engagement with and support of their organizations, and is applicable to arts organizations of all disciplines and all sizes statewide. There will be ample time allotted for Q&A from participants regarding their specific needs and challenges.

John Lanasa is the director, account services at Situation Marketing, a full-service live entertainment interactive marketing agency with offices in New York and Las Vegas. In addition to representing half of the shows on Broadway, Situation’s clients include Blue Man Group, Roundabout Theatre Company, New York City Opera, Center Theatre Group, and the Las Vegas productions of Jersey Boys, Phantom of the Opera, Stomp, and Mamma Mia. Prior to joining the team at Situation, John was an account supervisor at the ad agency SpotCo on more than 50 Broadway and Off-Broadway accounts. John started his theatrical career at Center Stage in Baltimore where he was the theater’s press representative.

In this workshop, illustrator Giselle McMenamin will lead participants through the process of creating and maintaining an on-line critique group. Topics to be discussed include: creating a mission for the group, creating an on-line showcase; setting up an on-line meeting blog; and creating guidelines that will ensure the success of your group.

Giselle McMenamin is a painter and educator living in Rockland County. She has a degree in fine arts from Parsons School of Design and has taught art to students of all ages in a variety of venues including the Art and Design Studio of Rockland, the JCC of Rockland and Dominican College. Her passion for art and desire to receive genuine feedback on her work and give others the same in return has motivated her to form an online critique group using an array of readily available tools via the internet. In addition to keeping her skills sharp artistically by being part of a critique group, she has also managed to garner wonderful friendships along the way.
