Each year Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival presents an amazing, vibrant spectrum of musical artists and storytellers—all superb entertainers who help inspire audiences to become actively involved in protecting our planet for future generations. The festival regularly features many different genres of music—too numerous to warrant a full listing—but suffice to say the tuneful artistry ranges from traditional to contemporary, Americana “roots” (folk, blues, gospel, country, etc.) to international sounds.

About the Clearwater Environmental Organization:

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. is a 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit, member- supported corporation whose mission is to preserve and protect the Hudson River. In 1966, folk music legend and environmental activist Pete Seeger, in despair over the pollution of his beloved Hudson River, announced plans to “build a boat to save the river”. At the time, the Hudson was rank with raw sewage, toxic chemicals and oil pollution; fish had disappeared over many miles of its length. Seeger believed a majestic replica of the sloops that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries would bring people to the river, where they could experience its beauty and be moved to preserve it. Inspired by that vision, the 106-feet-long tall ship Clearwater was built and launched in 1969. The sloop was among the first vessels in the U.S. to conduct science-based environmental education aboard a sailing ship, virtually creating the template by which such programs are conducted around the world today.

Live music, poetry, local artists all combine for a fun experience.  It’s free of course, and what a better place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon?

Soprano Julie Ziavras, is known for her diversity of repertory and styles and her ability to infuse a classical technique with the popular and folk genres. She has been featured as both a folk and classical singer in concert, radio and television in the U.S. and abroad in a repertory ranging from opera and traditional folk, to Greek and international ballads. She holds both bachelor and master’s degrees in voice from the Manhattan School of Music. A New York Times reviewer described her as “an estimable vocalist with a silvery voice…cradling her guitar, Miss Ziavras sang a variety of Greek numbers , plaintive to rhythmic, then rounded out the set with a group of English folk ballads…she held the spotlight alone.” Dr. James Cotter of the Times Herald Record said that “Soprano Julie Ziavras masters the most difficult instrument, wowing her Montgomery listeners with her warm and compelling voice, appealing presence and wide range of repertoire… pour(ing) her full energy into each number with virtuosity and verve.”
