Diane Ouzoonian Exhibits at the GWLPL

Diane Ouzoonian has an exhibit up at the Greenwood Public Library that is worth checking out. A member of the Warwick Arts League, landscape artist Diane works in oils and watercolors. The show is titled ‘Pure Colors’ and can be seen through 26 February.

Warwick Art League Art Sessions Extends Hours

The Warwick Art League announces that it will be extending its free weekly art sessions beginning in January 2010 to three-hour sessions.

The W.A.L. invites all artists to attend free weekly art sessions to paint, draw and more from your own set-up or photos on Tuesday mornings from 9:30a-12:30p beginning Tuesday, January 5^th, 2010, at the Greenwood Lake Public Library at 79 Waterstone Road, Greenwood Lake, New York.

Also, Warwick Art League is looking for you to become a member. It’s only $25 a year, and $35 for a family membership.

Meet the Artist: Photographer David Malantic at the GWLPL

Local photographer David Malantic will be exhibiting his works at the Greenwood Lake Public Library’s Works of Art Gallery through the month of October 2009. The exhibit, which will run from Saturday, October 3rd, through Saturday, October 24th, will be open for viewing during the Library’s regular operating hours–Mondays and Fridays (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.), Saturdays (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), and Sundays (11:00 to 3:00 p.m.). The Library is located at 79 Waterstone Road, Greenwood Lake, New York 10925.

A “Meet the Artist” reception will be held on Sunday, October 11th, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Appetizers and refreshing beverages will be served.

Malantic is a resident of Greenwood Lake. His exhibit, “Views of the Northeast,” is a varied collection of fine art photography.

Read All About It: the Lives and Works of Orange County Authors Exhibit

The Greenwood Lake Public Library will display the traveling exhibit, Read All About It: the Lives and Works of Orange County Authors, through the month of July 2009. The exhibit, which will run from Wednesday, July 1st, through Thursday, July 30th, will be open for viewing during the Library’s regular operating hours–Mondays and Fridays (9 a.m.-5 p.m.), Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (9 a.m.-9 p.m.), Saturdays (10 a.m.-4 p.m.), and Sundays (11 a.m.-3 p.m.). The Library is located at 79 Waterstone Road, Greenwood Lake, New York 10925. The full-color storyboard exhibit was created by the Orange County Citizens Foundation and will feature 22 well-known authors who have lived in Orange County. Authors range from Gypsy Rose Lee, Mickey Spillane, Emily Post, Stephen Crane, Zane Grey, and Noah Webster to modern-day writers Whoopie Goldberg, Hunter Thompson, Frank Gilroy, Robert Lipsyte, and James Patterson and others. This exhibit was funded in part with grants from Orange and Rockland Utilities and Orange County Tourism/Orange Arts and the County of Orange.

The OC Citizens Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of life in Orange County focusing on a balance between economic growth and environmental and cultural enhancement. Volunteers are welcome to join the Foundation’s committees which focus on issues such as land use, waste and water, transportation and cultural affairs. Junior Jubilee 2009, Greenwood Lake’s Budding Artist Gallery Opening

The Budding Artist Gallery is hosting its annual student art exhibition, the Junior Jubilee 2009, on Sunday, May 31st, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., in the Program Room at the Greenwood Lake Public Library, 79 Waterstone Road, Greenwood Lake, New York 10925. Approximately 60 students will participate in this event which will showcase artwork from students in Grades K-12 who have been selected by their art teachers, as well as showcase artwork from alumni student artists exhibiting this past year at the new Budding Artist Gallery (a student art gallery) at the Library. There will be approximately 60 students exhibiting their works.

Come meet these talented young artists and view their creations. Appetizers and refreshing beverages will be served. No registration necessary. Budding Artist Gallery at the Greenwood Lake Public Library

Fifteen year old student artist Cady Cirbes, a resident of Greenwood Lake and a Freshman at Tuxedo Park High School, is one of the many exhibitor’s at the Greenwood Lake Public Library’s Budding Artist Gallery.

Public libraries are often overlooked, yet they are one of our best community resources. They showcase art, foster communication, and are fantastic gathering places and informational resources to the local world around you. Even if you arent running in to get a book or video (did you know they even have DVDs?) you should stop by. If you ever want to know what’s going on in your community, your library will know. And they’re terribly friendly to boot.

Cady’s work and others can be seen at the library through the month.

Art Extravaganza 2009 exhibit

The Greenwood Lake Public Library cordially invites you to attend the

Art Extravaganza 2009
Sunday, April 26th

This event features the artwork by artists who have previously exhibited at the Library’s Works of Art Gallery. Each artist will display their art and will be present for a ‘Meet and Greet.’ The public is invited to view the extraordinary works of art from these talented, local artists. Join us for an exciting afternoon of art!

Sintora R. Vanderhorst will present her illustrated poetry. 8” x 10” and 11” x 17” prints plus her book of poetry titled “Tained Greenwood Lake Love” will be available for purchase.

Artwork will be available for sale during the event. Refreshments will be served at this Family Program. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Explore Sculptor Chakaia Booker’s Life and Works

Join Art History Professor Susan Slater-Tanner to celebrate Women’s History Month with an exploration of contemporary artist, Chakaia Booker’s, bold and beautiful sculptures on Saturday, March 28th, from 11:30a.m.-12:30 p.m. Registration is required for this ADULT/YOUNG ADULT program either in person or by telephone at (845) 477-8377 Ext. 10.

Seating is limited; early registration suggested.

Booker’s strong design sense and monumental assemblages can be traced to traditional African motifs, fabric, and fiber arts, as well as timely concerns of sustainability and recycling.
