Vicki Botta and Angelina Collins have teamed up to showcase their friendship and work together, combining landscapes from the Hudson Valley and northeast and photography pulled from Angelina Collin’s wide body of work.

The opening reception is 6 February, 2-4 pm at the Lycian Theater, the work will be on display through February.

Beacon, New York, December 2, 2009 — Marion Royael Gallery, located at 460 Main Street, Beacon, New York 12508, a full service contemporary art gallery featuring a mix of sculptures, paintings and mixed media works, announces its grand opening. As an introduction to the Beacon community the opening exhibition will showcase selected works by the owners Barbara A.G. and Steven Paul Riddle as well as notable architectural assemblage artist Gordon Graff.

“With our passion for art and love of the area and its culture, it seems like a natural step to open an art gallery here,” says Barbara Riddle, Co-Owner of the Gallery. “We are excited to bring the very best emerging contemporary artists and share their work with this community. It will truly be a worthwhile experience for any art aficionado.”

Along with the sculptures and paintings, the gallery itself is a work of art with high ceilings, an industrial feel and plenty of room for larger works. The exhibition space is located in the midst of the vibrant artistic community of Beacon, New York which boasts the Dia Beacon, many outstanding fine art galleries, www.beaconarts.org, top notch restaurants and a bevy of interesting and unique boutiques.

The gallery plans to hold future monthly shows featuring established names, as well as the most innovative emerging artists.

Roberta Rosenthal, is an award winning artist, specializing in botanical art. Her art is created with watercolor, gouache, oils or mixed media for paintings, illustrations and designs. Roberta, a native New Yorker, is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Textile Design and is a graduate of the High School of Art & Design in New York City. Roberta studied botanical art at the New York Botanical Garden, oil painting at the Art Students League, Asian brush painting at the Koho School of Sumi-e and privately with modern Chinese master Kou Liang Jui and introduced to C.C. Wang. In 1969 Roberta began her career as a designer for Macy’s and in 1971 at Leo Art Studio. Roberta founded RSR Designs a full service art studio in Manhattan in 1976. Her fine botanical illustrative art has been featured on postage stamps for the Marshall Islands and the Republic of Palau, books including Glory of the Garden and Rebecca’s Garden, Fine Gardening, Kitchen Garden, National Gardening and Horticulture magazines, packaging for Coty, Victoria’s Secret bath products, stationary for Caspari and ArtScroll Printing, giftware for Sven Jensen, ArtKraft Strauss Sign Corporation and licensed images of Disney products for Wendy Gell Jewelry.

We haven’t even gotten to her work at an art instructor at the New York Botanical Gardens.  But honestly, you need to know none of these things when viewing her work – the quality and exceptional detail speaks for itself.

This collection of erotica spans 47 years of Meadow’s fascination with all things erotic.  Meadow has touched on—and fondled—these subjects in virtually every medium, including colored pencil, hand-colored photographs, fiberglass and encaustics on wood.  Limited-edition sterling silver cast rings are displayed next to nude torso pins of “unspeakable” beauty.  Unique, imaginative sculptures in the form of cars and tanks enhanced with French ticklers playfully entice the more daring observer to touch

Occasionally, Meadow feels she communicates best through her sexually explicit art.  “I love producing erotic work. Sometimes it’s easier to deal with tough or hurtful subjects that way.  It can pack a punch,” she says. Meadow’s work is her direct response to Western culture’s taboos on sexuality, especially for women.  In one series, she combines graphite images that are clearly reminiscent of different eras of pornography. These are juxtaposed with dense writing in her own hand, expressing visual confessions of harsh and painful sentiments. When the concept of the pieces sinks in, the viewer is left with the realization that, although Meadow’s pieces appear to glorify pornography, her work is surprisingly feminist.

Meadow’s purpose is deeper than to simply shock and titillate. She states, “I strive to reverse the taboo our western moralistic cultural has placed on something so natural for humankind, our intimate connection with ourselves and our lovers.” Meadow accomplishes this in a humorous yet critical voice.

Meadow has been an important erotic artist for many years, producing work in just about every medium.  Her work is found in major collections including The Kronhousens, Paris, France; The DiRosa Foundation, Napa, CA; The Erotic Rarities Gallery and the Leslie Lohman Gallery Collection, both New York, NY.  Despite all the publicity it has attracted, the subject of erotica has not dominated the rest of Meadow’s artwork. She jokes that she prefers to keep this part of her body of work “between the sheets.”

The dynamic work of these artists is complementary both emotionally and formally. Both use abstraction to create work in mixed media, Flaitz inspired by nano-photography–examination of the tiny computer chips that drive modern computer

technology–and Goldberg by the infinite flow and spirit of the Hudson River. The textured work of both artists is vibrant in composition and richly tactile in surface.

“Below the Surface” also features selected international artwork from the book

entitled Freedom and Art, a collaborative effort by 74 artists from 27 countries on six continents published to make a philosophical statement. Proceeds from the sale of the book, which will be available at the exhibition, are being donated to Amnesty International on behalf of Aung San Suu Kyi. The paintings selected for the exhibition from this elegant volume include work from artists in Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Hungary, Russia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Libya, and South Africa.

The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception at the Karpeles Museum on Saturday, November 7, from 12 to 4 p.m.

The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum is located at 94 Broadway, across from City Hall, in the City of Newburgh. The Karpeles Museums are a national chain with nine in the U.S., specializing in the preservation and display of original, historically significant documents and manuscripts. Museum Hours: Thu.-Sat., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m.

The Orange County Art Federation 46th Annual Art Exhibition and Juried show reaches its zenith with its awards ceremony and reception, this Sunday from 4-7 pm.  Come join the Orange County Arts Federation and the local artists that worked so hard for this 46 year old art institution.

A “Meet the Artist” reception will be held on Sunday, October 11th, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Appetizers and refreshing beverages will be served.

In addition – guest artist Tony Lordi  will be exhibiting UPFRONT at the gallery.  He is known for the Empire State Building Sculptures and other Combines made from  Vintage objects.  His work has been capturing the imagination of collectors for three decades and he continues to build on an impressive history of solo and group shows at many galleries in The New York Metropolitan Area. Tony’s unique work will be exhibited  here at UpFront Art Gallery and featured in the November issue of Where, in New York Magazine.
