The OCAF is pleased to announce that this year’s 46th Annual Juried Artist’s Exhibition will be held at the Ritz Theater, 107 Broadway, Newburgh.

Due to the initial efforts of our recently retired secretary, Dave Nolan, we were able to procure this newly renovated, well-lit, wonderful space (large enough to accommodate approximately 60 works) for our event. Upon visiting the site to ensure it’s viability and to finalize all details, it was revealed to me that 2 confirmed and possibly 4 performances are scheduled to take place during our exhibition time period, beginning with the always exceptional Bucky Pizzarelli performance scheduled for October 9th & 10th. Consequently, I was able to move our drop off and hanging date to Wednesday, October 7th.

All members of current OCAF 2009 paid up art groups are invited to participate in this juried event that will take place from Wednesday Oct 7th until Monday, November 30 (approximately 7 weeks) during a very popular visiting season in the Safe Harbors area.

Please mark your calendars

APPLICATION SUBMISSION BY: Deadline October 1. Please mail application with your check to address below.

DROP OFF: October 7th, 10a- 1p * – Bring Photo ID for entrance to building, business cards to display.

HANGING: 1p -4p (helping hands will be sincerely welcomed and appreciated)

AWARD PRESENTATION/ RECEPTION:

Sunday, October 25th 4p – 7p

REMOVAL OF ALL WORK: Monday, November 30th between 12p-3p.

CONTACT: SARAH MCHUGH sarah@mchughstudio.com or call (845) 987-8748

Categories Include: Original Oils, graphics, watercolor, collage, mixed media, pastel, photography, pencil, charcoal, mixed media, sculpture, fine art limited edition prints, (woodcuts, lithography, etchings, etc.) *No giclée prints accepted.

Spend a day sketching and working with other artists, models and art lovers.

At the Black Feather Retreat, experience the pastoral pleasure of clean fresh air, private meadows, woods, streams, springs, ponds, gardens, stone walls, old barns, country roads and the delightful company of others, like yourself, who enjoy art. We have planned a mix of many figure models for each program.

Rain or shine, you will have a wonderful days filled with art. A large tent will provide shade, there will be ample seating at chairs and tables or, if you prefer, you may spread a blanket on the lawn and picnic all day. If it rains we will hold our sessions in the large studio barn, a beautiful 18th century structure. Aside from the scheduled program of models, there will be live music, and amenities such as water, drinks, box picnic lunches, maps, toilet facilities, and a friendly staff to help you enjoy the day.

Visions of Nature

Pastel renderings of nature by Paula Pearl

Thursday, July 2 – Friday, July 31, 2009

A versatile artist who has expressed her personal experience of nature in several media, Paul Pearl began her career in art as a photographer after graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in advertising art/photography. She has also exhibited her work in watercolors and in fabric art, sometimes combining fabric with paint and other materials in distinctive wall hangings. Her imaginative and award-winning quilts have been widely recognized for their creative design and selected for publication in the magazine Quilting Arts.

Ms. Pearl’s sensitivity to nature has also drawn her to the use of pastel, which permits her to evoke the subtle interplay of light and color in scenes of the shifting waters of lakes and streams in delicate colors. In compositions at once bold and tranquil she displays an extraordinary command of her exacting medium that has earned her an associate membership in the Pastel Society of America and a charter membership in the Pastel Society of New Jersey. She is also an associate member of Audubon Artists, the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Association, the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, and numerous other art societies. She is represented by the Swain Gallery in Plainfield, N.J., and has exhibited frequently in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
