The events are being coordinated with, New York State Presenters is a consortium of state-wide presenting organizations.

“These gatherings are open to all presenting organizations, both NYSCA and non-NYSCA funded, along with community-based organizations who may be interested in presenting activities in the future…  Each of the gatherings will feature a panel of New York State based performing artists such as the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company, composer and violinist, Daniel Bernard Roumain, about the potential of developing new audiences for your venue.”

The gathering for the Hudson Valley will be held on Thursday, November 19th at the Fisher Center for the Arts at Bard College, 10 am – 3 pm.

There is no charge for the event, and both organizations that present events and are looking for an audience, and presenting artists who are looking for venues are encouraged to attend.

The Search for the Rivermonster

All-new stand-alone radio play performed live at the Royal Pavilion Theatre at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf, NY by the Air Pirates Radio Theater, voted BEST Local Troupe 2007 by the Times Herald-Record Readers Poll. This special show will be recorded live for airing.

Joe Franklin, known as “the king of nostalgia,” will visit the Neversink Valley Area Museum, in Cuddebackville, N.Y. for a live taping of the talk show, Exploring Your World on August 22, 2009. The legendary Franklin hosted televisions’ very first talk show, The Joe Franklin Show. The show began in 1951 on WJZ-TV (later WABC-TV) and moved to WWOR-TV until 1999, becoming the longest running talk show in the history of television with one host, which put Joe in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Franklin’s long running Memory Lane radio program focused on the nostalgia of old time entertainers. Franklin currently interviews celebrities for the Bloomberg Radio Network. Franklin has written 23 books including his 1995 autobiography Up Late with Joe Franklin. Throughout his career he has interviewed some of the worlds’ greatest talents such as; Bing Crosby, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

The Neversink Valley Area Museum’s current exhibit, The Star is Born: A History of the Movie Star in America, tells the story of such stars from the first, Florence Lawrence, to the latest stars. Most of the important early film companies worked in Cuddebackville including the Biograph Company, Thanhouser, and Pathe Freres. Early stars of the silver screen such as Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Mabel Normand, and Mack Sennett filmed in Cuddebackville and director D.W. Griffith’s first ever use of a fade-out also occurred there.

Seth Goldman, director of the museum’s Institute for Early Film Studies and Whendy Lou, host and co-producer of Exploring Your World, will have an exclusive interview with Franklin discussing his encyclopedic knowledge of legendary entertainers and silent films.

The live taping of the show is open to the public and will begin at 4:00pm at the D & H Canal Park Visitors’ Center, 58 Hoag Road, Cuddebackville, NY. The show will air on August 19, 2009, on Time Warner Cable, channel 23, Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, in Middletown and the surrounding areas. Summer is here, and that can mean only one thing.  Live theatre has returned to our area once again!  Cornwall’s local non-profit theatre troupe Admit One Productions is proud to present their rendition of the one-act musical number, The Last Five Years. Admit One is proud to host five performances this summer.  Performances will be held in the lobby of the Ritz Theatre in Newburgh July 31^st – August 2^nd and August 6^th and 7^th.  Showtime is 8 PM for all dates.  All tickets are $10 and are general admission.  The lobby seats approximately one hundred, so reservations are strongly recommended.  In tradition with Admit One Productions’ tradition of giving back to the community, all of this year’s proceeds will go towards the restoration of the Ritz Theatre.

The Last Five Years explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The story is far from typical, however, as the young couple’s relationship is chronicled in a new and exciting way.  The show uses a form of storytelling in which Cathy travels backwards in time, beginning the show at the end of their marriage, while Jamie travels forwards, starting just after the couple has first met.  The Last Five Years follows two New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over a span of just five years.

The Last Five Years was written during the two years that composer Jason Robert Brown was touring the country as conductor and musical director of the national tour of Parade, for which he won the Best Original Score Tony in 1999.   When The Last Five Years opened at the Minetta Lane Theater in Greenwich Village in New York on March 3, 2002, Variety magazine called the show “nearly perfect”. James Robert Brown served as both composer and conductor, as he had done many times in the past.  “I love the feeling of re-creating the songs every night and being able to invest in them every night,” Brown told Playbill Online.

This year, Admit One is tackling musical theatre in a different way.  While the shows are usually large and elaborate, this cast is composed of only the two individuals, Cathy and Jamie.  Cathy will be played by Kaitlyn McKeon, while Jamie will be portrayed by Devlin Shand.  Both actors are CCHS graduates and long-time veterans of the Admit One troupe.  While a small cast may seem intimidating to some, Devlin and Kaitlyn are ready for the pressure and the challenge.  Susanne Shand, director, has a great deal of confidence in the two.  Shand stated “I feel fortunate to be kicking off our fifth season and to be working with such talented and caring people. Jason Robert Brown’s two-person musical follows a relationship between a young man and a young woman for five years and it lends some of the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard. Anyone who has ever been in love will be able to find a piece of themselves within the moments shared.”

Admit One Productions was conceived in the summer of 2005 with the simple belief to create, engage, and inspire live theatre.  Within Admit One, young adults are given the opportunity to work with professionals in a welcoming, hands-on environment.  The group is proud to be in its fourth year entertaining and enriching the lives of the people of Cornwall and the greater Hudson Valley.

As some of the many ways the city has been exploring its use, they are holding a fantastic art installation and exhibit on the island all summer.  19 international artists have descended on the island, bringing installation, performance, video, and multimedia work to the historic buildings and common areas of the island.  And best of all – it’s all entirely free.  From the ferry trip that departs from the tip of Manhattan to the walks and exhibits around the island, it’s all for your pleasure.

There is also an audiotape of music by rock ledgend Patti Smith and her daughter Jesse available to accompany you as you explore the installations.

If there was ever a reason to take a weekend drive into the city, hop a ferry through the harbor and spend the day under the sun (yes, we do expect the rain to actually stop this summer!), this is it.
