A full production of classic Christmas stories and songs to celebrate the holiday season, a Christmas Celebration was conceived and directed by Presby Players and ART artistic director Jeffrey Stocker

Performes will be at the newly renovated Marsh Hall at the First Presbyterian Church on Sussex Street in downtown Port Jervis Friday December 18th at 7:30pm, Saturday December 19th at 3pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday December 20th at 3pm.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door .The highlight of the production will include a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” performed by members of ART and the Presby Players. For information and ticket reservations call 845-856-1231.

The sheer diversity of artists is impossible to list here, but includes painters and illustrators working on a vast range of subject matter – still lifes, Civil War portraits, animal and landscapes – jewlery artists and quilters, photographers and pottery/ceramics.

The public is invited to attend an Opening  Reception for over 20 Artists on Saturday, October 3rd from 5-9 PM. Show dates are: Oct. 3 through Nov.29. In celebration at the Reception, UpFront Art Gallery will present;  live music, catering by Dematteo, a Local Wine Give-away, a VIP “After Party at the Blue Parrot” and many other interesting and unique surprises!

We have assembled an eclectic group of exciting young and seasoned Artists. Included in the exhibit are:

Amy Rowland, Angelo Marfisi, Barbara A.G. Riddle, Christine Jacobsen, Debbie Gioello, Emrie Brooke Foster, Frank Shuback, Gordon Graff, Greg Zukowski, Ken Krause, Laura J. Bolle, Mark Silverstone, Nick Roes, Rob Greig, and Steven Paul Riddle along with new exhibiting artists Evan Sinclair, Don Hutchinson, Doug Glenn, Shelia Glenn and Albert Singer.

In addition – guest artist Tony Lordi  will be exhibiting UPFRONT at the gallery.  He is known for the Empire State Building Sculptures and other Combines made from  Vintage objects.  His work has been capturing the imagination of collectors for three decades and he continues to build on an impressive history of solo and group shows at many galleries in The New York Metropolitan Area. Tony’s unique work will be exhibited  here at UpFront Art Gallery and featured in the November issue of Where, in New York Magazine.

This is a non commissioned event, the artist is asked to make a donation of sales to the Human Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark (the artist decides the donation level)

Demystifying the creative process as she frees the imagination, Marie Liu reveals the unconscious steps to making art. Once we understand that creativity follows a universally understood process, we no longer fear beginning artwork. By gently nurturing our natural visual gifts, Ms. Lieu liberates our expressive potential, while demonstrating how to transform the negative beliefs that sabotage artistic efforts. Through a combination of lecture, demonstration, and interactive discussion, Ms. Liu reveals the distinct stages of the creative process. We explore visual language using simple, fun drawing exercises. Understanding the way we approach our work while exploring the tools that allow actualization of ideas brings us to a new level of artistic power.

On Sunday, August 16th, 2009 at 3 PM, historian Peter Osborne will present Stephen Crane Remembered, a slide show which looks at the life of Stephen Crane in the context of the Tri-State region, where he lived a significant part of his life. This will be held at Port Java, 19 Front St., Port Jervis, NY. This is a free event, presented by the Port Jervis Council for the Arts, Port Java, and the Pienpack Company.

With DJ’s spinning, De Matteo catering, and an ‘unending wine bar’ for your enjoyment, Up Front is a must start for your Saturday plans. They’re even giving away a full case of wine during the evening… did we mention that there is art as well?  Of course there is.  And don’t forget to meet the new member of the Up Front Gallery team as well.

In addition to the exhibition, the gallery will serve complimentary wine and soft drinks, music performed by Joe Foss and Pat Clune of the PJ’s.  The food will be catered by DeMatteo’s Italian Restaurant in Glen Spey, NY.  There will also be a VIP “After Party” at The Blue Parrot. A case wine will be given away from a local winery and our guests will vote for their favorite artwork at the show, ”Peoples Choice Award”.
